Well...they are thick socks that actually go above the calf. Now Santa Rosa, CA is not that cold, but when I visited Denver, CO when it was -5 degrees out, my toes stayed warm and cozy.

I bought these cause they are great thick socks that I wear with my boots.

Buy a pair if you want very thick socks that go over your calf.
